Rock Archives is a probe into the rock music that we all love, placing special emphasis on the early days of rock ‘n’ roll from the mid-50s to the early 60s, but with due attention to other eras of rock and roll from the remainder of the 60s onwards.
Late 50s/early 60s were times of musical awakening for me – discovering hit parades and great songs on the radio. In 1960, I devised my own top 40 chart, inspired by 3DB’s top 40 published in “The Sun” newspaper. I “created” my own radio station and with my fleet of imaginary DJs, I would (when not at school) go through the motions and sing the hit songs while milking cows etc on the Thorpdale farm. From this early beginning, I have remained intrigued with hit parades and top 40 charts.
